The Heavenly Coronation / Regina Coeli

The Heavenly Coronation of Maria

According to the ecclesiastical tradition, also in the European religious communities as early as the 5th century, Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, after her death and admission to Heaven, was crowned Queen of Heaven by her son.
In the 17th century a new version of The Heavenly Coronation of Virgin Mary became known in the Ethiopian church art. You see Virgin Mary dressed in a royal, blue dress with her arms crossed in a pious gesture.
The actual coronation is performed jointly by God the Father and Jesus Christ.
According to Ethiopian tradition they are shown as two completely identical old men (for more information: the icon of trinity).
The third party from the Trinity is shown as a white dove with its wings spread above the crown.
